Project Corrupted, Backup outdated, On Hiatus

Damn unreliable power station caused my project to be corrupted because blackout happened right when I saved my work. With corrupt data, it cannot work and my backup is too outdated and I'm not gona start there. (This happened once before with my first RPG Maker XP project)

Guess I will put this game on hiatus for now until I get the motivation to continue unless someone knows how to fix corrupted rvdata.

  1. That's horrible, did you try to copy the folders Audio, Data, Graphics into a new RPGProject File? Maybe you can rescue some of you're work this way.

    1. The ones that are corrupted is the files in Data folder. All the database (actor, weapon, armor, item classes, enemies, etc) is corrupted and the backup is outdated and thus it will be a lot of work to make it match with the uncorrupted maps, which I won't do for now.

    1. It's not stopped. It's just put on hiatus because I'm not yet in the mood to fix all the damage that the power station gave me.

  4. Do you need help with the repair? I've got some experience with the Vx and the VX Ace.

    1. Even if you do, I don't think it'll be easy for you to fix it from an outdated database. Most of the maps are saved but the actors, items, skills, variables, common events, scripts, etc are lost and it'll be hard to match it with the outdated version.

  5. Sad news indeed, this is in many respects one of the most detailed projects I have come across, hope you are in a position to revisit this soon.

  6. I can't understand how this happened. I'm just seeing it as an excuse to stop the project. I'm fed up seeing people stopping because they lost their data on their seagate hdds or a "blackout". As a developer, you have to do backups. Each time you work on it. RPG Maker projects are not even heavy in file size. Even so, quality famous-branded power supplys nowadays are sold with protections destined to prevent this sort of problems.

I guess I'll never see my character in this game. Personnaly I never saw people getting back on their work after they said "It's on hiatus".

    1. I'm sorry for this. It is purely my fault that forgot to make backups. However, did you remember that I still continued it even after I lost my laptop last time? I will continue working eventually (especially after so many people donated for me even if I was unable to make use of the donations) but not now. Not only because I'm not yet in the mood but also because blackouts happen everyday since sunday and I don't even know why.

    2. And before you think it, I'm not lying. I'm really not lying about the irregular blackout everyday since sunday. Usually it happens only once a week but it occurs everyday since sunday and occurs at random. I'd buy power supplies if I have money but I don't. I don't even have money to buy a replacement for my broken laptop battery.

Rest assured, I'm not planning to abandon this project.

    3. Well, I hope you can prove me wrong.

What country do you live in again ? If it was for me, I would contact my power company to do something about those blackouts.

    4. Sorry. I can't tell you that. Personal reason.

  7. there is a software you can use to decrypt your most resent release.
    it's called RGSSAD - RGSS2A - RGSS3A Decrypter.
    search it on the web.

    1. I have it but that's not necessary because I have a backup though it is outdated. After all, the most recent release is even more outdated.

  8. Hum, just a little comments to people screaming. We don't all have the chance to live in countries with stable power supplies. I have the chance of having from 4 to 7<hours of blackouts on a dayly basis with the occasionnal few days without power whenever anything breaks anywhere between the power plant and the place wher i live. Money time and condition can be an issue so... Well, shit happens, that's life.So yes of course I'd like to see some progress and all that but don't you think that the one who is the most frustrated by the situation is raindrops himself? And by the way, if you want to see the project continue, i think that being supportive has more chance of making it happen than flaming him.
Anyways, keep it together man, we are with you on that. And yes i still think that your project is very nice indeed and i would hate to see it disappear.

    1. Thank you. :'D

By the way, Mederic64 donated some money and expected to see his character on the game so I can understand how he feels.

Btw, he probably didn't know that I continued making this game despite losing my laptop to a thief 2 years ago (and went through many trouble borrowing other people's laptop and stuff) so he could say he never saw a developer continuing his project after saying on hiatus because mine does.

  11. You should probably look into using some sort of version control system (git, mercurial, svn, or other) so damage of this kind doesn't happen again. I would recommend looking into a bitbucket or assembla account (both allow for free private repositories) to host your version control system. This way, if your computer detonates again, its just a question of re-cloning your project and you can continue where you left off.

  12. If your project is less than 15GB (it probably is), you can use Google drive to keep it backed up on the web. The Google drive folder can be set to any folder on your computer, and it will auto upload your project to the Google servers. at most if your com crashes, you would loose a day or so of work.
